Mumma Review
For once I am lost for words........atmosphere - tick, great food - tick, friendly service - tick, child friendly facilities - tick! Red Velvet Lounge in Cygnet is a fabulous find (although certainly not a secret) and would have to be one of the best cafe/restaurants around.
We headed down for Sunday lunch from Hobart with the family recently and a fantastic time was had by all. Our little man was propped up happy as larry in the highchair at the end of the table snacking on his lunch while the six of us enjoyed the range of delights on offer.......from tender braised beef with polenta, gremolata crumbed pork cutlet with shaved fennel, huon salmon salad nicoise, & 'the winning burger' with old-school chips that was simply inhaled by Hubby following his bike ride down from Hobart.
The vegetarians in the group were also well catered for with asparagus, blinis, poached duck egg & saffron mayo eaten and talked about all the way home by my sister. House made gnocchi, the special of the day, was also enjoyed. For three of us our meal was polished off with a slice of banoffee pie - oozing caramel and banana it was shared equally however we really should have indulged and had one each it was so delicious!
Red Velvet Lounge has a warm, colourful and relaxed atmosphere with an eclectic range of furniture, cool lamp shades and tall shelves housing delicious house-made preserves & jams, relishes & spreads. It always seems busy whilst ordered with a wide range of tables seating 2-8 people, one long bench and some comfy couches and big lounge chairs at the front of the restaurant for coffee and cake moments. The hustle and bustle of the place seems to drown out any kiddy noise as little ones just seem to blend seamlessly into the environment.
We can't go past Red Velvet Lounge as a destination in itself and well worth the drive down from Hobart. Mmmmm I will go to sleep tonight dreaming about banoffee pie and when I can get myself down there again for some more delicious food :)
Love Mumma Al x
I've been there with the kids twice now and both times we've been happily welcome and so well looked after. A definite winner!
